How to read this list
An upgrade or downgrade moves the long-term rating by one or more notches (for example A- to A, or A1 to A2). An outlook change leaves the rating where it is but signals the direction the agency expects over the next one to two years: negative outlooks precede roughly a third of downgrades. The ratings shown are each agency's long-term rating of the licence-holding entity as published by the bank itself; the date is the as-of date the bank gives, or the day we first read the new value. What a given rating means is explained on the rating scale page, and what a downgrade means for your money in what happens if a bank goes bust.
