How many branches does each UK bank have?
The 9 banks whose branch lists we read have 1,732 branches between them, as of 3 November 2026. Of those, the most are at HSBC UK 327, Santander 307 and Lloyds Bank 276; Nationwide, whose list we cannot read, says it has more (605 Nationwide and 91 Virgin Money branches, 696 in all, in May 2026). These counts come from the lists the banks publish for apps and comparison sites under Open Banking, read every week; shared banking hubs, part-time counters and mobile van stops are counted separately, and each bank's own published figure is shown beside its count, because banks count in different ways.

Banks whose lists we cannot read
Nationwide's open-data branch list returned "Access Denied" when we checked on 4 November 2026, and TSB publishes none that we could find (its open-data address returned "not found"), so neither is counted above. Nationwide says it has 605 Nationwide and 91 Virgin Money branches, 696 in all, which it calls the UK's biggest branch network (May 2026). Nationwide to become UK's biggest branch network as banks continue to close theirs.TSB says it offers "personal support at 175 branches across the UK" (May 2026). TSB joins Santander to become UK's third largest high street bank.
