Who owns which UK bank?
Many UK banking brands are owned by someone you might not expect. TSB has been owned by Santander since April 2026, Tesco Bank is a trading name of Barclays, M&S Bank's accounts moved into HSBC UK in June 2026, and Virgin Money and Clydesdale are now part of Nationwide. Owning a bank is not the same as sharing its licence: Halifax and Lloyds are in the same group but have separate FSCS limits, while Halifax and Bank of Scotland share one. This page lists who owns 69 UK banks and building societies, with the source for each statement, checked 22 October 2026.
