Bank branch closures 2027: every closure announced so far

UK banks have announced 22 full branch closures for 2027 so far (Lloyds Bank 15, NatWest 3, Halifax 2 and Santander 2), plus 29 part-time counters, van stops and moves. Banks must give at least 12 weeks' notice, so closures for later in 2027 are still to be announced, and this page grows as they are. Banks that have promised not to close branches in 2027

Nationwide: Nationwide says every one of its branches will stay open until at least the start of 2030: "There may be circumstances beyond our control that mean we have to close a branch. Or relocate it in the same town. We'll only do so when there's no other workable option."

Virgin Money: Nationwide, which owns Virgin Money, extended its promise to all 696 Nationwide and Virgin Money branches, 605 and 91, "until at least 2030", including where a Nationwide and a Virgin Money branch are close to each other.

HSBC UK: HSBC UK extended its Branch Promise in December 2025, "guaranteeing that all 327 branches will stay open until at least 2027". It did not say whether that means the start or the end of 2027.

Santander: Santander says: "We won't make any further branch closures before 2028. There may be situations we can't control that mean we have to close or relocate a branch." Closures it had already announced went ahead.

TSB: TSB, now owned by Santander, says "we do not intend to close any additional TSB or Santander UK branches before 2028 at the earliest".

Principality Building Society: Principality committed to "maintaining its high street and community presence until at least the end of 2030", saying it would only close a branch when it must, for example when a landlord ends a lease or it has several branches in one place. That is a promise to stay in each community rather than to keep every branch.
